Holly J. (Smith) Vaow(1948 - 2013)

Mrs. Holly J. Smith Vaow, 64, of 2321 Storey Lake Rd., Laceyville, passed away at the Regional Hospital of Scranton, early Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 2013.
Holly was born in Meshoppen, on Nov. 1, 1948, the daughter of the late Burton Lewis and Harriet Mae Storey Smith.
Growing up around the Meshoppen area, Holly was a graduate of Elk Lake High School, and also received her cosmetologist degree from the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center.
On July 21, 1967, Holly married Robert (Bob) Charles Vaow, and were married for 44 years, until his sudden death on Jan. 25, 2012. For many years Holly and Bob lived at their home just above Storey Lake, in Meshoppen Township,
Being a licensed cosmetologist, Holly enjoyed cutting and styling the hair of most of the members of her family, getting ready for most of the families weddings, and her nieces school dances and proms. Throughout the last few years, she worked with her husband and her sons at the Soaring Gardens (Artist Retreat) in Transue, where she enjoyed painting, wall papering and a lot of other repairs. Holly was also a great seamstress, doing custom sewing of curtains, and clothing. She was employed for many years at the Fashion Bug, in Tunkhannock and for more than 15 years, Holly was employed at Wal-Mart in Tunkhannock, retiring in 2011.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, painting, ceramics, and shopping, especially shoe shopping. She also loved being with her family especially being surrounded by her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her husband and parents, was a brother Lewis Stephen Smith who passed away on Aug. 9, 2012.
Surviving are her children: Hilary Poepperling and Jason Fluke of Harrisburg, Charles Robert Vaow of Laceyville, and Burton Francis Vaow and LeaAnne Marshall, of Meshoppen; her granddaughters: Ashley Sarnosky of Clarks Summit, Jenna Vaow and Jillian Capwell, both of Mehoopany, and Kyleigh Marshall of Meshoppen; and her great-grandchildren: Meleena and Masyn both of Clark Summit. Also her brothers: Burton Robert (Kathy) Smith of South Auburn, and Samuel Joseph (MaryLou) Smith of Meshoppen; and her sisters: Sharon Thorpe of Camp Hill, Lorie Anderson of Laceyville, and Lana (Sidney) Davies of Meshoppen; and her sister-in-law, Susanne Smith of Meshoppen; and her extended family of Jack and Betty Lou Vaow, of Meshoppen, Dora and Raymond Oliver, of Hallstead, and Fae Byers, of York; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, with Rev. Gary Myers of the Meshoppen Biblical Baptist Church officiating. Interment in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Rd., Clarks Summit, PA 18411, an animal shelter that is in danger of closing and in dire need of funding.
