Janice D. Hares, 60, of Lake Sheridan, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Regional Hospital of Scranton.
She was born in Scranton on Nov. 28, 1952, the daughter of the late H. Gardner and Frances Gardner DeWitt.
After writing to her pen pal during the Vietnam War she married him in 1974, Tom Hares.
She graduated from Lackawanna Trail High School and attended Keystone College. She owned and operated the former Tunnel Hill Video in Nicholson; she was a substitute cafeteria worker for Lackawanna Trail School District and worked the clubhouse at Lakeland Golf Course.
She was a member of the Wyoming County Republican Women and the Factoryville Ladies Fireman Auxiliary.
Surviving, besides her husband Tom, are two stepsisters: Marilyn Harvilchuck of N.C., and Susie Migliori of Tunkhannock; brother-in-law Frank Hares and his wife Theresa of Lake Sheridan; two aunts: Dorothy Mackie of Clarks Summit, and Alice Thomas of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, Sept. 25, at noon from the Anthony P. Litwin Jr. Funeral Homes Inc., 33 Reynolds St., Factoryville, with Rev. Paul Fields officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
Interment at Evergreen-Woodlawn Cemetery, Factoryville.
