Barry Maxwell Brown, 71, of Lawrenceville and Jasper, Ga., passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 2, 2014, after a four-year battle with cancer.

Barry was born in Jacksonville, Fla. on August 2, 1942.
He was preceded in death by: his son Barry Maxwell Brown Jr., who was killed in a service-related mission with the U.S. Navy Seals; his parents, Robert Maxwell Brown and Joyce Eagerton Brown.
He was the grandson of Robert Maxwell Brown and Laura Brown, who had an integral part of the Indian Rocks Beach development.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Furneaux Brown of Lawrenceville, Ga.; son Stephen Brown of Parkersburg, West Va.; stepson William J. Miller III of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
In addition, he is survived by his sister, Janice Reynolds (Scott) of Blythe, S.C.
He was the son-in-law of Jean Furneaux, of Factoryville, and the late Barry Furneaux.
Barry graduated from Largo High School, Largo, Fla., and the University of Florida. He also attended Oglethorpe University and Emory University.
Barry was a loyal supporter of the University of Florida and the Gators. He worked for Western Electric/Lucent Technologies in Atlanta until his retirement.
He was a scholar, and since departure from college, his thirst for knowledge through reading intellectual material grew until his passing.
Barry enjoyed his home in the North Georgia Mountains, raising Border Collies, woodcarving and politics- serving on Newt Gingrich's campaign staff for Congress.
