Jack Whipple, 68, of Laceyville, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 4, 2018, at his home on Edinger Hill surrounded by his family.

Jack was born on May 26, 1949, in Meshoppen, son of the late Carl Whipple, who passed away on July 22, 1978, and Lucy Pickett Whipple, who passed away on Dec. 30, 2001.

Jack graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School with the Class of 1967. After high school Jack proudly served his country in the United States Navy from January of 1969 until December of 1972. He attended and graduated from Penn State University with the Class of 1975 with a degree in electrical engineering.

Jack owned and operated his own construction business for a number of years. He was a member of the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion, in Black Walnut. Jack was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, as well as kayaking with his daughter, Lydia. He also liked gardening and woodworking. Most of all Jack loved to spend time with his family, and enjoyed going to his children's sporting events in their younger lives, throughout their high school years.

Jack is survived by his son Daniel Whipple (Stephanie Scavone) of Tunkhannock; his daughter Lydia Whipple of Laceyville; his sister Ellen Whipple of Laceyville; as well as many cousins.

Funeral services for Jack will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, with Rev. Mark King, a long-time family friend officiating. Interment will follow at Lacey Street Cemetery.

Military Services will be conducted at the funeral home, by the members of the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion of Black Walnut; the Dennis Strong Post #457 American Legion of Tunkhannock; and the Endless Mountains V.F.W. Post #3583 of Mehoopany.
