Jean Frances Van Dyke, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, in Leesburg, Fla.

She was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Tulsa, Okla., to Jack and Mary Jones Harshaw.

She was a graduate of Tulsa High School and Tulsa University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She worked as a stenographer for the U.S. Army Air Corps in Pinehurst, N.C., and Fort Worth, Texas.

Following her marriage to Vernon Van Dyke on June 25, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas, they settled in his hometown of Tunkhannock, where they resided for 50 years and raised four children. Jean assisted her husband in their commercial printing business, Van Dyke Press, and later worked at Wyoming County Press (New Age-Examiner).

She was actively involved in her community for many years. She was a librarian at the Tunkhannock Public Library and formerly served on the Board, was a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, and a charter member of the Tunkhannock Women's Club. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed flower gardening. Upon retirement, Jean and Vernon bought a second home in Leesburg, Fla. (Hawthorne).

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Vernon in 1995; parents, Jack and Mary Harshaw; and sister Mary Louise Harshaw King.

She is survived by her four children: daughter Alice Van Dyke and husband Joseph Collura of Tunkhannock, and Leesburg, Fla., son John Van Dyke of Tunkhannock, daughter Janice Van Dyke of Brant Lake, N.Y., and daughter Christine Pernot and husband David of Gaffney, S.C.; five grandchildren: Philip Warner and wife Valeria of Round Rock, Texas, Karyn Warner Brostoski and husband Joseph of Meshoppen, Michael Behling of Boston, Mass., Adriana Boylan of Oakland, Calif., and Colette Boylan of Bend, Ore; three great-granddaughters: Keryne Brostoski, Cassidy Brostoski, and Sasha Warner; nieces: Susan King and Nancy Sawalich; and nephew Frank King.
