Mark Todd Shingler, age 51, of Williams Rd., Meshoppen, passed away unexpectedly at the home of his mother on Monday evening, Oct. 28, 2013, in Meshoppen Twp.
Mark was born in Meshoppen, on Feb. 24, 1962, the son of Alma Newhart Shingler, of Meshoppen, with whom he lived, and the late James R. Shingler, who passed away on June 5, 2006.
Mark was a life-long resident of Meshoppen, where as a child he was active, playing Little League Baseball for Meshoppen, and also Little League All Stars for R.T.L. He has always loved sports. While attending Elk Lake High School, he was a member of the wrestling team.
During his adult years, Mark played softball for many years, for his dad, and with his brothers. He also enjoyed playing flag football for many recreation adult leagues, in Wyoming and Bradford County. During the 1990s, he competed and eventually won second place, in the Scranton Tough Man Competition. He was also an avid New York Jets fan. He enjoyed fishing with his grandson and loved spending time with his new granddaughter.
Mark enjoyed being surrounded by the members of his family and friends; He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving is his mother, Alma Newhart Shingler of Meshoppen; his son Mark Shingler (and Hannah Kiefer) and his son Josh Rundell; his grandchildren, Derek Shingler and Amber Shingler.
Mark is also survived by his two brothers and their wives: Dave and Carole Shingler, and Ed and Zelda Shingler; as well as his nieces and nephews: Chris Shingler, Rhiannon Shingler, Jason Shingler, Mandee Shingler, and Brooke Shingler; and several great nieces and great nephews. His extended family of aunts and uncles: Ted and Shirley Shingler, Jack Shingler, Ruth Shingler, Barbara Shingler, and Floyd (Bones) and Linda Newhart; and many special cousins.
Besides his dad, Mark was preceded in death by a brother, Scott Allen Shingler who passed away on July 29, 2013.
Private graveside services will be held at the Jersey Hill Cemetery, in Meshoppen, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Homes, Main St. Meshoppen.
