Pastor Victor W. Decker, 86, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday morning, Jan. 28, 2013. He died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Mehoopany on Feb 14, 1926, son of Rodney C. and Mildred Decker. A graduate of Mehoopany High School and Baptist Bible Seminary, he served student pastorates at the Fox Hollow Church near Mehoopany and at Tunkhannock Baptist Church. He was the founding pastor of the Osterhout Bible Church while still a seminary student and pastored that church for 53 years. He ministered bivocationally by choice and continued the family farm at Mehoopany, being well known for many years for his large flock of sheep that grazed along Sugar Hollow Rd. He was active in the community, serving on the Vaughan Cemetery Board, the Pennsylvania Wool Growers Association, the Pastors Bible Fellowship, and other such groups.
He is survived by four children, son Rodney and wife Linda of Tunkhannock; daughter Evelyn and husband David Stone of Lima, Peru; daughter Suzan and husband Keith Brewer of Noel, Missouri; and son Cecil and wife Eleanor of Aspers, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Geraldine Shoemaker of Noel, Missouri. He was predeceased by his wife Agnes in 2010.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m. at the Osterhout Bible Church with Pastors Brian Williams and Loren Decker presiding. Viewing hours will be at the church on Saturday evening, Feb. 2, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Vaughan Cemetery in Mehoopany at a later date.
