Raymond "Red" J. Ayers of Centermoreland died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

He was born April 28, 1934, in Noxen, son of the late Earle and Mildred Foote Ayers.
Red was a 1952 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and prior to his retirement was employed as a mill worker at Natona Mills in Dallas for more than 22 years. He was a member of Temple Lodge #248 F & AM in Tunkhannock. He was an avid organic gardener and truly enjoyed the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Ayers.
Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Kelly Ayers of Centermoreland; daughter and son-in-law Cyndi and Jim Laviska of Falls; brother Dr. Earle Ayers; sisters, Alice Steiner and Betty Carichner, all of Tunkhannock; and grandchildren: Daniel, Nathan and Amelia Ayers, and Geneva and Jared Laviska.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, Oct. 11, from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W Tioga Street, Tunkhannock with Mr. John Steiner, nephew of Mr. Ayers, officiating.
