Caldwell, Sam Phillip - Pontotoc  
PONTOTOC – Sam Phillip Caldwell, 72, passed away on December 14, 2014, at his residence. He was born on August 23, 1942, in Pontotoc County to Ralph Ellis and Jimmie Ray Brandon Caldwell. He worked in the furniture factory and MDOC bridge construction. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and was a sports fan for MSU Bulldogs. Services will be at Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 18. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his daughter, Susie Hamilton (Junior) of Okolona; two sons, Scott Eric Caldwell (Nita) of Pontotoc and Sammy Neil Caldwell (Leslie Kelly) of Pontotoc; two sisters, Gaye White (Olen) and Nan Baggett, both of Pontotoc; two brothers, Tracy Caldwell of Sherman and Jim Caldwell of Southaven; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Ellis and Jimmie Ray Caldwell. Pallbearers to serve will be Eddie Barrentine, Jimmy Boyd, Billy Roy Wiseman, Steve Caldwell, Tim Caldwell and Nikki White. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Caldwell, Scott Caldwell, Nathan White and Jacob White. Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. at Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home. Carrithers, Mike - Tupelo  
TUPELO – Edward Michael ""Mike"" Carrithers, 60, passed from this life on December 18, 2014, at NMMC, the same place he was brought into this life on May 5,1954. He was born to E.T. ""Pete"" and Mary Lou Mabry Carrithers. Mike started school in 1960 at Baldwyn and after the family moved to Tupelo, he attended Plantersville and Shannon. He also attended Itawamba Community College and Addie McBride School for the Blind. He didn't let his blindness keep him down. He stocked vending machines at factories in Verona and worked many other jobs in his younger years. He worked at LC Ind. for over 20 years until his hip surgery in 2011. In the past few years he had gone back to the vending business. He had several machines in the Tupelo area, Greenville and Fulton. He was a first responder for the Red Cross and had been a Ham radio operator for most of his adult life, where he has made many friends from all over the states. He was also a charter member of the Tupelo Evening Lion's Club. Mike loved his friends and always had someone to call for any problem that came up. He had not been able to attend church for several years, but loved and appreciated each person there. He was a member of East Heights Baptist Church. Services will be at Waters Funeral Home today at 2 p.m. with Dr. Tim Brown and Bro. Nathan Fitts officiating. Burial will be in the Pratt Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Debra Webb Carrithers of Tupelo; sister, Helen Carrithers Cook (Murray) of Baldwyn; stepdaughter, Karen Webb of Tupelo; mother-in-law, Sarah Webb of Saltillo; nieces, Jacque Bates, Cindy Cook Lester (Mike), Angela Cook Hughes (Greg), Christie Bates Gory (John)and Brandy Webb; nephews, David Bates, Lawrence Webb and Nathan Webb; great nephews, Justin Davis, Jamie Davis, Brent Davis, Jay Davis, Zack Gory and John Bryson Webb; two special families that were always there for him, Jimmy Lamb family and Jerry Thomas family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Bates; brother-in-law, Clilon Bates; and many uncles, aunts and cousins. Pallbearers will be Chuck Richardson, Jimmy Lamb, Jerry Thomas,Danny Riley, Murray Cook and Buddy Palmer. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watersfuneralservice.com. Carter, Allene - Guntown  
GUNTOWN – Allene Hedge Carter, 65, died December 14, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was a homemaker. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Waters Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by a daughter, Michelle Huddleston (Robert) of Saltillo; son, Jonathan Armstrong of Saltillo; three grandchildren, three sisters and a brother. Colbert, Peggy - New Castle, In  
Peggy C. Colbert, 91, of New Castle, died peacefully at home with her family Sunday afternoon, December 14, 2014 in New Castle, IN. Peggy was born March 12, 1923 to the late Robert Huey Cox and the late Alma Hamilton Cox in Blue Springs, Mississippi. She was baptized into a Baptist congregation at around age 13. She attended high school in Sherman, MS but, after marrying the late Trusty M. Whitehead, she graduated high school in Kilmichael, MS. She attended Business College in Memphis, TN. Peggy held secretarial positions at several businesses, including Sears, Roebuck & Co. and General Electric in Memphis, TN and the law office of Bobby Jones in Atlanta, GA. While living in Atlanta, she attended interior design school and began pursuing her career in interior design as an independent business woman. Peggy Colbert Designs clients included both businesses and private individuals in Florida, Tennessee and Mississippi. She served on the board of Brooks Art Gallery in Memphis, TN. Peggy enjoyed golfing, gardening and football. Peggy is survived by one son, Trusty Michael (Linda) Whitehead of New Castle; two grandsons, Trusty Michael Whitehead II of New Castle and Christopher Paul (Melissa) Whitehead and two step grandchildren of Dallas, TX; three brothers, Jack S. Cox (the late Jo Ann Mitchell Cox) of Tupelo, MS, William Harold Cox (the late Royce Mires Cox) of Mount Juliet, TN and James H. (Joanne) Cox of New Albany, MS; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 37 years ago Peggy welcomes into her life her extended family which at the time included step granddaughters, Bamba Clock, Shanon McFalls of New Castle, IN, Ronica (Kyle) Duffin of Shakopee, MN, step grandson, Shane (Liz) Douglas of Yorktown, IN. Throughout the years her family grew to include 10 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren all of whom loved Peggy dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lester Cox, who died at age 18 months; her late husband, Vincent Colbert; a step grandson, Derek Douglas; a step great grandson, Derek Douglas II; a step great-great grandson, Dusty McFalls all of New Castle, IN. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Indian School, PO Box 326, Chamberlain, SD 57326. Coleman, Danny  
Danny Coleman, age 61, passed away at his residence in Starkville on December 13, 2014, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Danny was born and raised in Starkville and was retired from Four County Power Association. He was a member of the National Guard and a board member of the Adaton-Self Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Danny is survived by his wife, Sheila Long Coleman of 21 years; two sons, Bill Buckner and his wife, Frances of Columbus, and Joshua Buckner of Starkville; one daughter, Jennifer Williamson and her husband, Andy of Columbus; one sister, Barbara Martin of Tuscaloosa; one brother, Sammy Coleman and his wife, Beth of Starkville; six grandchildren; two nephews, Justin Coleman of Starkville and Dr. Bobby Martin of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Estel D. Coleman, Sr. and Leola Hemphill Coleman. The visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, at 10 a.m. at the Starkville Church of God. Burial will follow in the Morgan Chapel Cemetery. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Murphy and the Rev. Hank Anderson. Comer, Marilyn - Dorsey  
DORSEY – Marilyn J. Comer, 64, died Saturday, December 13, 2014, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born November 18, 1950, in Buffalo, Okla., she was the daughter of Albert and Wilma Ferbrache Chase. She was a resident of the Dorsey community for the past 44 years. She worked for the circuit clerk's office, Mueller Brass, and Stovall Tax Services before taking ownership of the family business, Comer's Restaurant, in the mid-1980s. She loved shopping; watching the Food Network; visiting with and cooking for her customers, friends, and family; collecting cookbooks; and spoiling her eight grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Morning View Baptist Church in Dorsey. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Chris Burrows and Bro. Jackie Gray officiating. Burial will be in Dorsey Memorial Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Mike Comer, of Dorsey; her children, Carrie Hitt (Mark) of Mooreville, and Troy Comer (Robbie) and Terry Comer (Emily), both of Dorsey; eight grandchildren, Addie, Tanner, and Meredith Hitt; and Madeline, Ethan, Mollie Jo, Nate, and Lily Afton Comer; her mother, Wilma Chase, of Buffalo, Okla.; three brothers, Terry Chase of Dorsey, and Paul Chase (Bobbie) and Mike Chase (Sherry), both of Buffalo, Okla.; and three sisters, Karen Johnson (Jimmy) of Gruver, Texas, Joyce Silvey (Howard) of Kingman, Kan., and Janice Summers (David) of Tupelo. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Chase; her niece, Leesa Marie Gray; and her in-laws, James and Joyce Comer. Pallbearers will be Brian Comer, James Farris, Ryan Summers, Mark Summers, John Edwards, and Kevin Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
