Barnes, Nelda - Nettleton  
NETTLETON – Nelda Sullivan Barnes, 66, wife of Bro. Horace Barnes, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. Services celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at Living Water Community Church off Eggville Road near Mooreville with private burial to follow in Liberty Cemetery. Bennett, Bob - Tupelo  
TUPELO – Bobby Gene ""Bubba"" Bennett, 80, died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford of natural causes. Born on July 23, 1934, in Saltillo, the son of William Trannie and Jessie Lee Bennett, he was a lifelong resident of the area. In his early years, Mr. Bennett was a radio operator in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi. After an honorable discharge, he began working for Murdock Acceptance Corporation, then Southwest Savings and Loan in Natchez. Later he was owner of Tupelo Muffler Mart for 30 years as well as owner of Video Palace of Tupelo. Mr. Bennett was a member of Gloster Street Church of Christ. He enjoyed flying, sailing, boating and all adventurous sports. He leaves his daughter, Desha Lee Cruse; sons, Bobby Gene Bennett Jr. (Bob) and Joseph Bowen Bennett (Jody); grandsons, Blake Timothy Bennett and Brett Thomas Bennett; sister, Dale Bennett Pate and brother-in-law, Bruce Pate; son-in-law, Neil Cruse, and daughters-in-law, Cari Bennett and Laura Bennett; nephews, Mike and Mark Harrison; and the mother of his children, Patsy Bennett; as well as many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Jo Bennett Harrison; brother-in-law, Ralph Harrison; and nephew, Matt Harrison. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and memorial service at noon. Billups, Jimmy - Baldwyn  
BALDWYN – Jimmy L. Billips, 69, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at NMMC in Tupelo. He was born May 17, 1946, to William and Quillar Marie Billips. He was a member of Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Baldwyn. He served 21 years in 198th Amour National Guard, worked 20 years at Day-Brite Inc. and three years with the MDOT. He was a bus driver with the Baldwyn Public School District. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Mt. Olive M.B. Church with the Rev. Wayne Myles officiating. Agnew & Sons Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Cressy Billips; stepmother, Allene Billips; daughter, Cassandra Ruff (Rev.Gary); sons, William Billips (Franda) and Chad Billips (Angela); sisters, Nellie Jo Billips and Olivia Billips-Williams (Ron); brothers, Leamon Billips (Lucy), Jonathan Billips and Joseph Billips (Norma); stepsisters, Peggy Skinner, Bessie Lowe, Lorene Friar (John), Alice Starks, Bobbie Williamson (Rev. Mark) and Stacy Ivy (John ); special friend and cousin, Milton Billips; 18 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and family hour 5 to 6 p.m. today. BOONEVILLE – Donna H. Bowen, 51, passed away July 29, 2015, at her residence. She was a factory worker and a Baptist. A memorial service will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Waters Funeral Home. She is survived by a son, Stuart Bowen (Ashley) of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; brothers, Don Hastings of Kossuth and Donny Hastings of Corinth; grandchildren,Tristan and Marty Bowen of Kentucky. Breeden, Roy L. - Covington  
COVINGTON, La. – Roy L. Breeden, 75, of Covington, La. passed away at Countrywood Manor, Mantachie on July 24, 2015. He was born in Brookhaven on January 2, 1940, to Rufus L. Breeden and Lether Brister Breeden Simmons. His formative years were in Jackson where he attended Jackson Public Schools, graduating in the class of 1958, from Provine. He served in the U.S. Air Force, returned and graduated from Mississippi College in 1965, with a degree in business. He pursued a career in the hotel industry which carried him to many places in and out of the U.S. He retired in 2012, as his health began to fail. Roy is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Stanley A. Simmons; brother-in-law, Dexter W. Scruggs; and nephew, Dexter (Bill) W. Scruggs, Jr. He is survived by his sister, Nina B. Scruggs, Mooreville; his niece, Connie S. and husband, William (Will) Whittington; great-nieces, Shelby Vance Whittington and Charlotte Bell Whittington of Tupelo; stepbrother and friend, Robert Simmons and his wife, June of Brandon. Of the Baptist faith, his letter remains with Daniel Memorial Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Monday, July 27, 2015, from noon to 2 p.m. at Lakewood South Funeral Home in Jackson. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Lakewood South Funeral Home in Jackson. Interment to follow at Lakewood South Memorial Park.

Brown, Ewell - Booneville  
BOONEVILLE – Ewell Odus Brown, 94, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2015, at Southern Magnolia Estates Assisted Living in Iuka. He was born June 14, 1921, to Newton and Pearl Walden Brown. He was a lifelong resident of Prentiss County except for the time at Southern Magnolia and during World War II. He served from December 2, 1943, until December 25, 1945. He was in Battery B Field Artillery. As a lineman, he landed five days after the initial landing at Normandy Beach. He fought in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received a World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and EAMETO Medal. After his service he returned to Prentiss County and worked in the dry cleaning business for 40 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Booneville. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Alton Byrd officiating and Nathan Brown delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Hazel Green Brown; two sisters, Virginia (Wilmer) Penna of Bartlett, Tenn., and Beverly Taylor of Florence, Ala.; one brother, Vance (Louise) Brown of Booneville; two sisters-in-law, Eula Mae Moss Brown and Eva Nell Malone Brown; caregivers, Tony Brown and Shirley Moreland; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Maylene Brown; three brothers, Leamon Brown, Edwin Brown and Johnny Browne. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at McMillan Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be the nephews from the Brown and Green families. Burnette, Thomas - Fulton  
FULTON – Thomas William Burnette, Jr., 68, died suddenly Friday, July 24, 2015, at his home in the Peaceful Valley community. He was born Aug. 30, 1946, to Thomas William and Wilma Irene Thompson Burnette. He was a supervisor and plant manager, working at Super Sagless and at True Temper. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton. Burial will be in Keys cemetery. Survivors include one son, Matthew Burnette of Tupelo; one granddaughter, Polly Dean Burnette of Guntown; one brother, David Burnette of Beedeville, Ark.; one half brother, George Burnette of Hickory Ridge, Ark.; two step-brothers, Carroll and Carl Williams, both of Texas; two half sisters, Sally Robinette of Newark, Ark. and Margie Jacobs of McCrory, Ark. He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Ann Howard Burnette; three half brothers, William and Pete Burnette, and Ronnie Williams; two sisters, Dorothy Kullman and Mary Welch; and his parents.
