PONTOTOC – Bonnie McCarter, 81, died Monday, July 7, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born May 5, 1933, in Sardis, Tennessee, to Robert Lee and Ozzie Mae Maness Goff. She was a billing clerk for many years in the trucking industry, most of those with Thurston Truck Lines. She was a member of West Heights Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and cooking, but her greatest joy was that of a wife, mother and grandmother.|
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at West Heights Baptist Church with Dr. David Hamilton and Bro. Dan Young officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Rex ""Slim"" McCarter of Pontotoc; two daughters, Laura Nixon (Geoff) of Germantown, Tenn., and Heather McCarter of Sardis, Tenn.; two sons, Jeff McCarter and Steve McCarter, both of Pontotoc; two brothers, Gerald Goff (Betty) and Jimmy Goff (Linda), all of Sardis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Mary Beth Helms, Corey Helms, Court Nixon, Sydney Nixon, Avery Nixon, Ryann Nixon, Grayson Nixon and Addison Mae Nixon; a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Wanda Court, Nell Carter, Betty Edgin and Ruth Goff.
Pallbearers will be Mark McCarter, Michael Goff, Jason Lunn, Terry Wilson, Larry Long and Ken Hewitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Goff, Randy Carter and Larry Edgin.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today and 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, all at the church.
