Robert L. "Bob" Miller
NEWARK: Robert L. "Bob" Miller, age 81, of Newark, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born August 25, 1932 in Glouster, Ohio to the late Lawrence and Lillian (Swindel) Miller.
Bob was a firefighter with the Newark Fire Department, I.A.F.F. Local 109, serving the community for over 25 years. He was an avid bowler, loved fishing, boating and playing horseshoes. He enjoyed meeting quarterly with other Newark firefighter retirees at Pizza Cottage on Mt Vernon Road and at Wendy s located on the square, three times a week. Bob was a member of International Association of Fire-Fighters, Newark Fraternal Order of Eagles - Aerie 9851, United Ancient Order of Druids and Sons of AMVETS.
He is survived by two daughters, Shelly A. (Joe) Pittenger of Orient, OH and Vicky McKitrick of Newark; a son, Timothy Miller of Newark; a brother, William Bill (Mary) Miller of Newark; grandchildren, Andrew Pittenger, Allison Pittenger, Darrell McKitrick III, Julie McKitrick, Timothy Samuel Miller and Andrea Rose Miller; a great grandson, Colton Miller; and special friends, Pat and Jim Dishon, Tom and Carol Eppley, Don Happy Jack Roderick and Carolyn Walters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newark Fire Department, I.A.F.F. Local 109, Post Office Box 1189, Newark, Ohio 43055.
A memorial service followed by a potluck, will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the AMVETS Post #51, 9293 Township Road 79, Thornville, Ohio

Bob and I were buddies for many many years. We bowled, had a few beers, and shared a lot of laughs as the years went by. Spoke with him in December at AmVets before we went west for the winter. He will be missed.

I am truly sorry to hear of Bob's death. I remembered him skating years ago at the rink on E Main Street,and knew him at Eagles through Carolyn. He was a very nice man, always smiling or laughing. God bless all of you.
