Thompson, Bruce Edward
Bruce Edward Thompson NEWARK: Bruce Edward Thompson enjoyed 61 quiet trips around the sun until losing his heroic battle to lung cancer. Bruce passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the OSU James Cancer hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Bruce was born January 3, 1954 to the late Carl F. Thompson (passed June last year) and Jeannette (Strader) Thompson. After graduating from Newark High School in 1972, he received a degree from C.O.T.C.. Bruce went on to serve our country for 6 years with the U.S. NAVY and additional time in the Reserves. He continued to work for the Federal Government as he worked 37 years for the Department of Defense in Oklahoma and finally in Heath, Ohio where he owned his home and retired. Bruce leaves behind, but will see again, his mother, two sisters, one niece and four nephews: sister, Cathy (Jeff) Kurzawa and their family, John (Charlotte) and new baby Jackson Kurzawa; Cathryn (Anthony) Davis, sister, Annette (Jim) Kurzawa and their family, Jared Kurzawa, Joseph (Julie) Kurzawa, and James Kurzawa. Bruce's noble wish was to donate his body to medical and military research. To honor and remember Bruce, the Kurzawa/ Thompson family will plant a Blue Spruce tree as a physical landmark that all may visit in reverence. A stone will be placed next to his father. The private ceremony to commemorate our quiet man will be held on a sunny day when some of our sadness has lifted.
