Anna L. Gutridge

NEWARK: A funeral service for Anna L. Gutridge, 89 of Newark will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 65 N. Third Street, Newark with Rev. Steven Brand officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Gutridge passed away March 26, 2013 at Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Newark. She was born January 2, 1924 in Bloomingburg to the late Loren and Thelma (Myers) Foster.

A graduate of Bloomingburg High School, Mrs. Gutridge retired from the Licking County Sheriff's Office in 1988 where she worked as a Deputy Sheriff. Mrs. Gutridge was one of the first female Deputies in the state of Ohio. She was a member of the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association; "Forget me not" Garden Club; Friday Card Club; and First Presbyterian Church, where she was also a member of the choir. She volunteered for Hospice of Central Ohio, enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing. She was well known for her pies. No one ever went hungry in her home. She also loved family gatherings.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Gutridge, whom she married August 29, 1987; a daughter, Marcia (Rick) Henderson of Newark; step-daughter, Sherry Ayers of Charlotte, NC; step-son, Mike (Mary) Gutridge of Granville; grandchildren, Ericka Henderson of Columbus, Brian Hoy of Blacklick, Erin (Pat) McPherson of Reynoldsburg, Summer (Mike) Savin of Charlotte, NC; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Cole of Glendale, CA; and several nieces.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward McCoy in 1984; and a son Ed McCoy.

Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
