Eileen B. Thomas
NEWARK: A funeral service, to celebrate the life of Eileen B. Thomas, 90, of Newark, will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Celebrant Mark Dettmer officiating. A private burial will be held at Brown's Chapel Cemetery in Ross County.
Eileen was born in Laurel, Nebraska on September 29, 1922 to the late Cecil Byron and Mattie (Keeper) Shade. She passed away at the Selma Markowitz Care Center on October 5, 2012 while surrounded by family.
Eileen was a devoted homemaker, raising her two daughters while her husband was away for extended periods of time, while serving his country in the US Air Force. She had a competitive spirit, especially when it came to playing Scrabble, and she's known as the "Queen of Scrabble." She also enjoyed cards, history and crossword puzzles. Spending time with family and friends was also very important to her.
Survivors include her two daughters, Arleen Ann (Michael G.) Leatham of Newark and Diane Kay Martin of Heath; grandchildren, Michael (Bethanee) Martin of Pataskala and Carrie (Corby) Martin-Wise of Mt. Vernon; great grandchildren, Zachary Robert Martin, Benjamin Alexander Martin, James Michael Martin and Eleanor Catherine Wise; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents; she is preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Clarence Robert Thomas, US Air Force Retired; twin sister, Arleen Chaney; and brother, Floyd Shade.
