GRANVILLE: A Celebration of Life service for Ernest Shepard will be held 7:00 P.M.Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, with Pastor Gary Kirkpatrick presiding. The family will receive friends and relatives one (1) hour prior to time of service. A private interment will take place at Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Shepard, age 85, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Selma Markowitz Care Center, Newark. He was born December 15, 1926, in Roseville, Ohio to parents Mose and Luzella (Harvey) Shepard. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War
. After 30 years of employment with Kaiser Aluminum, Ernie retired and then was employed by Moundbuilders Guidance Center for another 17 years. He served as Recording Secretary for Kaiser retirees and in 1993 was inducted into the Licking County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. Ernie was an avid bowler and his love for the out-of-doors was satisfied by hunting and picking raspberry, blackberry and hickory nuts. He was an avid Buckeye fan as well. He married his wife of 61years, Mary B. (Jones) Shepard on September 2, 1951 and together they raised three daughters and loved seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Ernie is survived by his wife Mary of Granville; daughters Saundra (Kenton) Brown of Newark, Beverly (Howie) Hill of Granville and Brenda (Tom) Franks of Heath; grandchildren Josiah (fiance Mariah Mitchell) Brown, Justin (Whitney) Hill, Megan (Jay) Mizer, Benjamin (Mandy) Ash, Nathan Franks, Ryan Ash and Kaitlyn Franks; great grandchildren Maya Ash, Malcolm Ash, Malia Ash and Marcus Mizer; brother Dale (Kathy) Eppley of Pataskala; sisters Barbara Kerttu of Huntington Beach, CA, Sheila Thomas of Roseville, OH and Sherila Jones of Minnesota as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to his parents, sister Annetta Ginnery formerly of New Lexington preceded Ernie in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Heartbeats in the name of Ernest Shepard.
