Frances Magnolia Elmore Matthews Ward
NEWARK: A homegoing service for Frances Magnolia Elmore Matthews Ward, of Newark, will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Noble and Dr. Sherman Watkins Sr. officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Frances was born in Newark on May 10, 1932 to the late Fred and Giyneeters Elmore. She went home to her Lord on Monday January 7, 2013 at her residence. She was a blessed 80 years old.
Frances is preceded in death by her husband John Ward; siblings, Fred Elmore, Lefonzie "Beau" Elmore, Mary Clark, Evangeline Green, Inez Dean, and Josephine Major.
She is survived by her children; Deborah Matthews of Berekley, CA., Arthur (Faye) Matthews of Virginia Beach, VA., and Barbara Matthews of Columbus OH; grandchildren, Shannon Matthews-Stewart, Kandice Hairston, and Rhyan Matthews; great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brother, Joe L. (Jean) Elmore of Obetz OH; numerous nieces and nephews; and her sister friend of 72 years Maggie Glover.
Frances was a member of the Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies Inc.; a former member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she directed the mass choir for many years. Fran retired from the Licking County Municipal Court, formerly employed at Roper, and provided professional services for the family of Kurt Frank Sr, an executive of Holophane. In her later years, Fran provided professional foster care to many children. Fran's hobby and passion was food, and she loved to cook for family, friends and her community. Fran was a member of OES, Elks, Twig 17, and the Nimble Thimble Club.
