NEW CARLISLE: GeeGee (Gladys M. Hart) Gracy, 80, of New Carlisle, Ohio passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton following a short illness. She was born on February 17, 1933 to the late Samuel and Carrie Elizabeth (Lugg) Hart in Springfield, Ohio, one of nine children.

GeeGee attended Northwestern Schools and transferred to Springfield Senior High School where she graduated in the top ten in the 1951 class. She was a graduate of Wright State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Counseling. GeeGee served as a teacher at Catawba Schools, and as a teacher, lead-teacher, and counselor at Warder Park Elementary, Springfield, Ohio, from which she retired in 1994. GeeGee also earned her real estate sales license to work with her husband in her "spare" time.

GeeGee loved learning and reading, and instilled this love in her own children and grandchildren as well as many others. Her many community activities included Young Women's Mission, serving as past Chairwoman of Finance and Scholarship Committees, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Circle, past President of New Carlisle Sertoma, past Treasurer of Friends of the New Carlisle Library and New Carlisle Breakfast Optimist. GeeGee received the Martha Holden Jennings Educator Award and served as a Stephen Minister for many years. GeeGee and Gerald enjoyed traveling, spending time with their family and friends and playing in several bridge groups. GeeGee was also a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of New Carlisle. She will be remembered for her love of family, her faith, her love of learning, her great sense of humor and her way of making everyone she knew feel special. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving is her husband of nearly sixty-one years, Gerald Gracy whom she married March 21, 1952; her children Jerry (Cindy) Gracy of New Carlisle and Kathy (Mark) Kasper of Granville; sisters, Mary Mott of Troy, Dorothy Beatty of Urbana, and Nancy Strader of Springfield; sisters-in-law, Alma Gracy of New Carlisle, Janet Hart of Tipp City; grandchildren, Laura, Sarah, and Catie Gracy of New Carlisle and Derek (Christina) Kasper of Newark, Blake Kasper of Westerville, Erika (Mike) Sheets of Crescent Springs, KY, and Grant and Kayla Kasper of Granville; great grandchildren Emma and William Kasper and Coleman Sheets; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, GeeGee was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha (Susie) Moore, Edna Moore, and Thelma Giles; two brothers, Samuel and Roger Hart; sister-in-law, Winnie Hart; brothers-in-law, William Gracy, Ray Mott, Eldon Moore, Mickey Moore, Cecil Giles, Frank Beatty, and Ronald Strader.

A memorial service celebrating GeeGee's life will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 4:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 220 S. Main St., New Carlisle, OH with Pastor Jeff Burdsall officiating. A "Stroll Down Memory Lane" will be from 2:00-3:45 at the Church.
