John Dwight Coventry
BELLEVUE: A funeral service for John Dwight Coventry, age 88, of Bellevue, formerly of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Denman officiating. Burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Coventry was born September 24, 1924 in Harrison County, Ohio to the late John Benjamin and Mabel Laura (Betts) Coventry. He passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at The Willows at Bellevue.
When he was a small child, the family moved to Dennison, Ohio where he grew up and graduated from Dennison High School in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Army
in 1943 and served in the European Theatre of operations. Following his discharge, he enrolled in office training school in Columbus and worked in several office positions, after which he moved to Newark and was employed with Kaiser Aluminum. Upon leaving Kaiser, he joined the United States Post Office in May of 1961 and retired in October of 1986, having served most of his postal career in the Heath area. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark for nearly 65 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 85 and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna (Bradley) Coventry; a son, Thomas R. (Ruth) Coventry of Utica; a daughter, Linda M. Coventry of Bellevue; special "adopted" grandchildren, Ashley (Anthony) Cooper of Toledo, Joshua Horsley (Megan) of Bowling Green and Dustin (Becca) Horsley of Toledo; three great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Miriam and Clarence Streeter.
