Johnny Wayne Johnson

HEATH: Johnny Wayne Johnson, 66, of Heath, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 13, 2013. Johnny was a 25-year resident of Heath, Ohio, previously residing in Dallas, Texas.

Johnny was born in Dallas, Texas on December 22, 1946 to the late A.W. Johnson (Buddy) and the late Alice Maurine Johnson. Johnny was a loving father to his three children: Robin (Brad) Keating, of New Albany, Ohio; Miles Johnson, Heath, Ohio; and Milly Johnson of Heath, Ohio, and their mother and Johnny's longtime close friend, Nicky Johnson (Bordonaro). Johnny was devoted grandfather to his two grandchildren: Beckam Keating, 7 and Cambell Keating, 5. He is also survived by his (3) siblings, Jerry 'Buddy' (Cathy) Johnson, Jeffrey (Cyndi) Johnson and Jay (Susan) Johnson.

Johnny had several nieces and nephews in Dallas, Texas Including: Shane (Berit) Johnson and their children Sloan and Tyler; Lauren Johnson; Ashley (Casey) Pruitt and son, Colton Pruitt; Leslee (Keith) Marcom, and son, Luke; Mackenzie Johnson and Casey Johnson.

Johnny was a life-long athlete. He was a 1965 graduate of W.W. Samuell High School in Dallas, Texas. He was a (3) year, (4) sport letter winner receiving honors for the baseball, football, basketball, and track teams. Johnny received All-State honors, as well as winning a state championship in baseball, being drafted by the New York Yankees out of high school. In addition, his track relay team at W.W. Samuell set a national record for the 440 relay. He was unanimously selected All-City at Samuell, and then went on to play football at Kilgore Junior College, winning the NJCAA National Championship in 1966. His team was inducted into the Kilgore Hall of Fame in 2003. He also played collegiate football at Wichita State University and professionally, playing for Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League.

Johnny was involved in the automobile business for most of his life. He owned and operated "Go See Johnny, Inc." for many years, and took great pride in his customers and their mutual loyalty. He was actively involved in the community through sponsorships at Heath High School and The Heath Sertoma Youth Athletic Association.

Calling hours and service arrangements will be held at Brucker Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N, 21st Street, in Newark, Ohio on Wednesday, April 17th. Calling Hours will be held from 5-7pm with Memorial Service at 7pm.

Johnny will be laid to rest on Saturday, 11am on April 20th at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery in Dallas, Texas, where a service will be held for family, friends, classmates and teammates. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Johnson Family, c/o Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home. Additional funds will be dedicated to the Johnny W. Johnson Student-Athlete Scholarship Award, which will be annually awarded to a W. W. Samuell High School recipient. Please include your contact information for updates and awardees.
