Laura Jean (Blake) Oliver

CANAL WINCHESTER: Laura Jean (Blake) Oliver, age 76, of Canal Winchester, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at her home. Laura was born January 28, 1937 in Mount Vernon, Ohio to the late Harry and Frances E. (Johnston) Blake.

Laura was a 1954 graduate of Newark High School. She lived most of her life in Newark and retired from Licking Memorial Hospital in January of 2000. Following her retirement, she moved to Canal Winchester where she took an active part in the senior community at Waterford Place. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, listening to live music, reading, decorating and, most of all, spending quality time with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Darlene M. Price of Columbus and Carla E. Oliver of Obetz; a son and daughter-in-law, Julius V. and Renee Oliver; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle L. (Melvin) Steward; sister-in-law, Mattie L. Blake; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Oliver; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, General Grant Oliver II; two sisters, Vontilla Holland and Rosamond E. Price; and a brother, Rodney H. Blake.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Newark Memorial Gardens.
