NEWARK: A funeral service for Leonard W. Baker, Jr., will be held at 11AM on Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, Reverend William J. Rauch will officiate. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Friends and family may call from 2-5PM on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st Street in Newark.
Mr. Baker, 71, of Newark, a beloved husband loving father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Heath Care Center. He was born May 17, 1942, in Thornville, a son of the late Leonard W. Baker, Sr. and Virginia Pearl (Cole) Baker Jackson of Newark. He was a 1960 graduate of Newark High School and enjoyed bowling, roller-skating, euchre, boating and camping. Mr. Baker retired in 1993 from the Newark Air Force Base where he had worked with computers in the "Clean Room". He had a lifelong love of airplanes and was a private pilot for 35 years. Mr. Baker was interested in ham radio and had been president and treasurer of the local club in the 1960's. For many years he was a volunteer fireman
with the Newton Township Volunteer Fire department. A member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mr. Baker had served in the church choir, assisted with youth groups and had transported many youth to outings at Cedar Point and Kings Island over the years. He had spent many hours helping at Camp Lutheran family work week. He was always community minded and had helped with the March of Dimes, Special Olympics
, Salvation Army and drove for Zerger Hall transporting seniors in Newark. Mr. Baker was also a realtor and had worked at Woeste Real Estate, Prudential Integrity One Realty and Frame Real Estate in Wooster.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by wife of 28 years, Terrie L. (Johnson) Baker; sons, Todd Leonard Baker of Columbus, Timothy Dean Baker of Columbus, Trevoret Hugh Baker of Westerville; step-sons, Steven M. (Kathy) Harper of Heath, Troy (Dawn) Harper of Newark; three grandchildren, Rian Harper, Cameron Baker, Emilee Harper; brothers, Paul Albert (Connie) Baker of Newark, Nicky Lyle (Belinda) Baker of Newark; sisters, Holly (Greg) Green of Newark, Beverly (Fred) Kelley of Newark, Duanna Jorgenson of Newark, Denise (Jeff) Kaiser of Newark and several nieces and nephews.
