Lester A. "Les" Winters, Sr.

JACKSONTOWN: A funeral service for Lester A. "Les" Winters, Sr., age 75, of Jacksontown, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor Irene Wilson officiating. Burial will take place in Jacksontown Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Les passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at his home. He was born July 4, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa to the late Maurice Dean "Speck" and Wilma Marie (Thompson) Winters.

Les served in the United States Air Force from June 1955 until 1960. He finished his military career in the Air National Guard, retiring in January 1985 with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Les was employed as a pipeline welder for five years and as an over the road truck driver until he retired at age 62. In addition, he and his wife, Ellen, had a flea market business which they enjoyed for twenty years. Les was a member of the Buckeye Lake Eagles. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time in Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ellen J. (Holmes) Winters, whom he married September 4, 1955; and two sons, Maurice "Ace" (Linda) Winters of Newark and Lester, Jr., (Michelle) Winters of Miamisburg. He also leaves to cherish his memory, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and honorary daughter, Angela Thornton Winters.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.
