FRAZEYSBURG: Mary Ellen Moss, 89, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Tuesday afternoon, May 7, 2013 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville.

Born November 12, 1923 in Frazeysburg she was a daughter of the late Charles and Edith (Shafer) McFarland and was a 1941 graduate of Frazeysburg High School. Mary proudly served our country during World War II as a part of the United States Army Women's Army Corp (WAC). In 2009 she was inducted into the Muskingum County Veterans Hall of Fame, the first woman so honored. Mary was also the first woman elected to the Tri-Valley High School Board of Education and served for 12 years. She worked for 22 years in the office of the Ohio Plastics Company of Frazeysburg and she assisted in the operation of Moss Trucking for many years with her husband and son. She was an avid CB'er and was known by many by her nickname and CB handle, "Bine".

Mary always was involved in her community. She was a volunteer at Frazeysburg School for 15 years and was famous for the pies and cookies she baked for all events and fund raisers. Mary was a member of the Wakatomika Veterans Club and served as the secretary of the Frazeysburg Alumni Association for many years. She was also active in the Frazeysburg Boosters Club and served as treasurer of the Frazeysburg-Nashport Youth League for 40 years.

Surviving is her son, Clinton L. "Bud" Moss; a sister Lois Robison; and a brother in-law, Larry Hindel, all of Frazeysburg, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil D. Moss whom she married June 28, 1941 and who died April 15, 1990; a son, Charles Moss and a sister, Elsie Howard.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery with Wakatomika Post 6193, VFW conducting military honors.
