Ralph "Bill" William Jackson, Jr.
NEWARK: A funeral service celebrating the life of Ralph "Bill" William Jackson, Jr., age 83, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Mark Katrick officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery where the Licking County Veterans Alliance will provide military honors.
Bill passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Chestnut House. He was born October 13, 1930 in Newark to the late Ralph William and Mae Louise (Markham) Jackson.
Bill retired from the B &O Railroad/Chessie System as a Dispatcher. He served during the Korean War
in the Navy Reserve in San Diego, California. Bill was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ where he participated in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher, and youth director. He was also a member of The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Volunteer for the Newark Township Fire Dept., F & AM Masonic Lodge #554 ACME, Licking Wheelman Bicycle Club, Friends of Dawes, YMCA, National Assoc. Railroad Veterans Employees and participated with Meals-on-Wheels.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Baker) Jackson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Douglas O'Brien and Pamella and Kevin French; two grandchildren, Mackenzie O'Brien and Lauren French; and a sister, Jean Anne Hauer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy L. (Darling) Jackson, whom he married March 6, 1954 and passed away January 4, 1998.
