NEWARK: Calling hours for Raymond Earl Simpson, 71 of Newark will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.

Raymond Earl was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on May 12, 1941 to the late Raymond and Oma (Marshall) Simpson. He passed away on January 2, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Prior to retirement, he worked for Rockwell International and Arvin Meritor as a machine repairman. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. For over 50 years, his true passion was building and racing stockcars. Raymond had a great sense of humor, knew no stranger, and loved everyone he met.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Viola "Toni" (Baker) Simpson, whom he married on June 25, 1961; children, Earle (Tammy) Simpson, Kenneth (Sandy) Simpson, Sherry (Rodney) Angus and Alyssa Rogers; brothers and sisters, Ernie (Barbara) Simpson, Donald (Mary) Simpson, Nora (Randy) Grigsby and Claudia ( Norval) Walker; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Raymond to the , 5455 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43214.
