Dr. Richard M. Chapman
NEWARK: A memorial service celebrating the life of Dr. Richard M. Chapman, 77, of Newark, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Celebrant Andrew Hoover officiating. Military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Dr. Chapman was born in Newark, Ohio on April 16, 1935 to the late Maurice Chapman and Hazel (Claggett) Chapman Dove. He passed away at Kindred Health Care on March 22, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Dr. Chapman proudly served his country in the United States Air Force
during the Korean Conflict
. He graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis. Prior to retirement, he was a Chiropractor in the Newark area for over 48 years. He was a member of the National Chiropractic Association; life member of the Ancient Order of Druids in Newark; enjoyed playing handball, volleyball, singing, listening to country music and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, especially watching OSU football. Dr. Chapman also enjoyed spending time with his loving family, especially doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Cora L. (Walker) Chapman, whom he married on December 14, 1960; six children, Frank (Sue) Walker, Mike (Brenda) Svoboda, Rebecca Beck Holmes, Gayle Svoboda, Gloria (Terry) Baker and Daphne Chapman; brother, Donald (Dorothy) Chapman; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip Chapman; and one sister, Joyce Chapman.
Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dr. Chapman to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
