Robert L. Pound, Sr.

NEWARK: A funeral service for Robert L. Pound, Sr., 82, of Newark, will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 1:30 PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, with Rev. Miriam Schreck officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery with military honors being observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Robert was born in Newark, Ohio on December 17, 1930 to the late Ernest and Doris (Schonauer) Pound. He passed away at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio on December 11, 2013.

He proudly served his country as a battleship radio operator in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Robert was the owner of Pound's Flowers for over 30 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; Newark Masonic Temple #97; and the Newark Amateur Radio Association. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Dallas Cowboys fan. He had the distinction of acquiring a black belt in karate, and taught at the Licking County YMCA. Robert was full of life and loved his family and friends dearly.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Darlene (Cochran) Pound, whom he married on November 16, 1952; children, Robert (Kathy) Pound Jr., Cynthia Pound and Nancy (Philip) Proctor; grandchildren, Bryan, Brad, Jon, Christina, Courtney, Tommy and Colin; brother, William (Monagene) Pound; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one grandson, Scott Robert Pound.
