William Harold "Bill" Patton
REYNOLDSBURG: William Harold Patton "Bill", age 88, of Reynoldsburg, passed away on October 19, 2013 at Wesley Ridge.
Bill was born March 29, 1925 to the late Dorsie Lee and Ida (Burton) Patton in Cannel City, Kentucky and grew up in a Masonic home in Louisville after the death of his father. He is retired from Newark Airbase after more than 39 years of Federal Government service. Bill is an 18-year US Navy
veteran of both WWII
and the Korean War
, where he was the Chief Electronics Technician aboard the USS Fechteler (DE 157) which was sunk after being torpedoed in the Mediterranean. Later assigned to a cruiser in the Pacific, where he narrowly escaped a typhoon off Japan in June '45; though badly damaged, the ship returned safely to the US. In 1961, after service on 13 different ships and participating in seven major naval engagements, Bill then entered the civil-service at the Dayton Air Force depot, as a platform calibrator and tester. He was first to go off to training for the Atlas missile guidance system. Bill soon entered into management and was selected as "Supervisor of the Year" in 1966. Before retirement, he held the Deputy Division Chief and Chief Spokesman for management in labor negotiations.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hazel "Bunny" Patton; and sisters, Edwina Glenn, Genevieve Arnett and Laura "Mickey" Davies.
He is survived by his children, Carolyn (Kory), Tom, Sherry, Jodi (Brian), Lisa, Jackie, Allan; grandchildren, Tina (Tom), Greg (Janie), Craig (Angela), Melissa (Dave), Timothy (Jill), Brian (Dani), Brooklyn, Gabriella; great-grandchildren, Noah, Mariah, Abby, Logan, Landon, Laila, Kaiden, Amber, Zack, Jacob; and beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on WEDNESDAY, October 23, 2013, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the PFEIFER FUNERAL HOME, where a service will follow on Thursday, 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Hayes officiating. Burial with honors in Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
