FRAZEYSBURG: Betty Louise Hickman Murphy, 91, of Newark, Ohio died Friday morning, October 12, 2012 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born February 25, 1921 in Licking County she was a daughter of the late Clarence Walter and Della Leora (Tucker) Hickman and was a 1940 graduate of Utica High School. Betty co-owned and operated The Dick & Betty Murphy Grocery in Newark for many years, as well as The Dick Murphy Wholesale Candy Company. She enjoyed quilting and all types of needlework, especially crocheting doily's which she shared with many people. She also enjoyed painting ceramics with her sister Audrey and baking and canning with her sister Bonnie. Betty was a member of the Heath Church of Christ and loved to read her Bible. She had read it cover to cover 20 times.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy Holtz and her husband, Jim, Patty Kreager and Susan Kidner and her husband, Gary, all of Newark; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard E. Murphy who died in 2006 and her two sisters, Audrey Pipes and Bonnie Norris.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8pm Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the funeral home with Betty's nephew, Deacon Daniel Norris officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Ohio.
