Calvin R. Miles, Sr.

NEWARK: Calling hours for Calvin R. Miles, Sr., 78, of Newark, will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark. A private burial will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Calvin was born in Richmond, VA on November 5, 1934 to the late Julius C. Myers Sr. and Elsie Marie (Cook) Woodson. He died on January 7, 2012 at Kindred Health Care in Newark.

Calvin proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He drove for Yellow Cab and Dave Chesrown for many years, along with auto detailing at Chesrown Cadillac. He was a member of American Legion Post #85 in Newark. He was a coach and groundskeeper at Mound City Little League. He coached many Little League baseball teams over the years and was also a coach for the Police Athletic League (PAL) basketball team. Calvin had a great sense of humor, was the type to help anyone in need, but most of all, he loved everyone that he met.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Racheal (Warner) Miles, whom he married on November 7, 1972; children, Larry Miles, Calvin (Amber) Miles Jr., Roderick Miles, Keith Miles, Calvin "Duke" (Karen) Miles III, Marty (Alana) Miles, Earnest (Rachel) Simpson Jr., Tonya Miles, Mary (Tony) Ward, Cathie (Lewis) Simpson, Stella (Willie) Pegan and Audrey (Rick) French; brother, Julius Myers, Jr.; sister, Tina M. Crosby; and numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Anthony Miles; daughter, Leah Boller; and step-father, Bill Bolen.
