Clarence W. "Big Daddy" Cabiness

NEWARK: A funeral service for Clarence W. "Big Daddy" Cabiness will be held Friday August 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Charles Noble Sr. officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Licking County Veteran's Alliance at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Clarence was born on July 1, 1920 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Rueben and Molly (Withers) Cabiness. Clarence was called home on August 13, 2012 at his home. He was 92.

Clarence is preceded in death by his wife, Queen E. Cabiness, whom he married on May 6, 1954 and who died in January of 1969; sisters, Ann Margaret of Detroit and Ruby Mae of Philadelphia.

He is survived by his children, sons, Rueben Cabiness, Clarence (Judith) Cabiness, and Clifford Cabiness; Daughters, Brenda (Horace) Campbell, Pauletta (Oscar) Evans, Levetha Parks and Kathleen Cabiness, all of Newark; twenty grandchildren; fifty-five great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and his sister, Icie Bascomb of Tuskegee, Alabama; and a host of other relatives; and good friends, including James Steiger of Detroit.

Army Staff Sgt. Cabiness was decorated with the American Service Ribbon, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 battle stars and 6 overseas service bars. He then served another enlistment in the US Air Force, touring much of Asia. He retired from Rockwell Int'l after 30 years service, loved to fish and hunt, he and Queen travelled to Alabama yearly and enjoyed his grandchildren very much.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2PM to 4PM and from 7PM to 9PM.
