NEWARK: Earl Schroyer, 85, of Newark, returned to the Lord on September 12, 2012 under the care of Odyssey Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, OH with Rev. William J. Rauch officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. The family will receive friends from 6-7 PM on Wednesday.
Earl was born September 23, 1926 in Zanesville, OH to the late William Levi and Anna (nee Pugh) Schroyer. His parents came to Zanesville from Pennsylvania and Earl's father served in the Spanish American War. He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Ramona Ingold (Robert), Janice White (John) and Inara Dharani (nee Diana Schroyer) (Amirali Dharani); four grandchildren, Heather Gentile (Lassaad Jeliti), Adam Gentile (Kristian), Aaron Winchell (Daniel Horton) and Nigel Gates (Erica). He is blessed to have 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edward Schroyer, Arthur Schroyer and William Schroyer; sisters, Ruth Nottingham, Katherine Bolin, Phyllis Bergen, Beulah Bauer, Lena Harris, and three children who passed in infancy.
Earl was a career Navy Telecommunications Chief and served during World War II, Korean War and the early years of the Vietnam War. After retirement of 24 years of service, he continued his duty to his country by working until retirement at Newark Air Force Base, Heath, OH as a telecommunications specialist and unit commander.
After retirement, Earl loved adventure and he moved with two of his daughters to Bethel, AK, a remote fishing village. Even there, he loved to work and served the community by driving the elders of the community to the Senior Center. He enjoyed his work in the community.
He was well known for his good nature, a friendly and smiling face. He loved to play racquetball, tennis, hiking and canoeing long distances with his daughters. He was an example of healthy living and cared for his daughters with love. Earl was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Newark, OH. He loved music and singing songs, even in his time as a resident of Chapel Grove, an assisted living facility in Heath, OH.
