NEWARK: A funeral service for Gladys Eleanor Hatfield Kemp, age 90, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Chaplin Anthony Payton of Generation Hospice officiating. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery.
Mrs. Kemp passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehab. Center. She was born March 15, 1922 in Bremen, Ohio to the late Cyrus Gordon and Ida Evelyn (Keller) Steen.
Mrs. Kemp was a 1940 Graduate of Toboso High School. She was a member and past-president of the American Legion Post 85 Auxiliary and was also a member of the 40/8 Club. Gladys enjoyed playing bingo, listening to country music and sewing.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. (John) Walsh and son, Donald L. (Paula) Hatfield, both of Newark; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and step-daughter, Gail (Brian) Nelson of Erie, PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Melvin Chester Hatfield and Leon C. Kemp; a daughter, Norma E. Barker-Lambert; infant twins; brothers, Carl E., Oren J., Edwin and Edgar Steen; two sisters, Mary A. Wood and Helen M. Price; and step-son, Raymond Kemp.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, October 8, at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark, where the American Legion Post #85 Auxiliary will have a service at 7:00 p.m.
