Gregory Edward Schell
NEWARK: A Mass of Christian Burial for Gregory Edward Schell, 65, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 26, 2012, with Fr. Noble officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Greg died at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends on Friday, June 22, 2012. He was born in Caldwell, Ohio on February 4, 1947 to Elvira (Hill) Schell of Heath, and the late Clarence W. Schell.
Greg was a man of many talents, as evidenced in the many successful professions he held throughout his life. His passion was farming, and he was involved in many aspects of the farming business for most of his life. In addition, Greg worked as a firefighter and paramedic with the city of Newark, and was also a pilot. He then became owner and operator of Schell Cut Curb, where he designed, engineered, and manufactured his custom curb cutting trucks, the first of their kind in the world. His work ethic and his many talents were a testament to the quality his work produced and the many lives he touched throughout his professional career.
Greg was a parishioner and devout supporter of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, and a 1965 graduate of Newark Catholic High School. As an incredible husband, father, pappy, uncle, friend, and neighbor, Greg leaves a lasting legacy with the groups of individuals he held relationships with, which will never be forgotten. His greatest joys in life were serving the countless number of people he cared about the most. Those who knew him were truly blessed to have been a part of his life.
In addition to his mother, Greg is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Mary Jane (Davis) Schell, whom he married on September 21, 1968; his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Kristie Schell of Newark; his daughters and sons-in-law, Heidi and Shawn Edwards of Troy, MO; and Heather and John Rathbone of Port Saint Lucie, FL; his six grandchildren; Ethan and Sullivan Schell, Elizabeth, Sydnie, Ellie, and Harrison Edwards; his siblings and their spouses, Clair and Julie Schell, David and Jane Schell, Charles and Gail Schell, Barbara and Douglas Heffley, Mark Schell (Lynette White), Monica Stell, Steven and Susie Schell, Anne Schell, and Michael and Cathy Schell; his sister-in-law, Barbara Schell; his wife's family, Regina and Kenneth Guy, Patricia Rowley, Robert Davis, and Richard and Anneliese Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all, including his Tuesday night Ping Pong group.
In addition to his father, Greg was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Schell; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frederick and Edna (Wahl) Davis; and his brother-in-law, William Davis.
Friends and family may call from 4-8 P.M., Monday, June 25, 2012 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Newark Catholic Foundation, 1 Green Wave Drive, Newark, OH 43055; or the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, OH 43055.
