ELWOOD: Helen P. Baker, age 90 of Elwood, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following an extended illness.
She was born July 2, 1921 in Mount Vernon, OH, the daughter of Walter and Ida Mae (Shuff) Ulery. She was a homemaker and farmwife most of her life, and formerly worked for several years as a secretary at Voris Seed Company in Windfall, Indiana. She was a 1939 graduate of Homer High School in Homer, OH. Helen married Robert D. Baker on October 2, 1942. She was a member and former Deaconess of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Elwood and a former member of the Harmony Baptist Church in Johnstown, OH. She loved music and playing the piano, and enjoyed quilting.
Survivors include: daughter, Janet (John) Lazdins of Indianapolis; two sons, Thomas (Judy) Baker of Lincoln, IL and Terry (Charlotte) Baker of Canton, OH; sister, Virginia Morrison of Reynoldsburg, OH; two grandchildren, Heather (Chad) Bozell of Noblesville and Chad (Heather) Baker of Norfolk, VA; four great-grandsons, Conor Bozell, Jagger Bozell, Caegen Baker, and Blake Baker; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: parents; husband who died June 11, 1996, Robert D. Baker; brother, Vincent Ulery; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Baker.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Greenhill Cemetery in Johnstown, OH with Rev. Michael Rector officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Visitation will also be held from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home in Johnstown, OH prior to the graveside funeral service.
