HEATH: A service celebrating the life of Hershel J. Markle, age 88, of Heath, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Dave Mason and Ray Linn officiating. Burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Markle went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born October 19, 1923 in Richland Township, Guernsey County, Ohio to the late Lewis and Leah Meryl (Touvell) Markle.
Mr. Markle was a veteran of the United States Army, faithfully serving his country during World War II in the European Theatre. He retired from Allied Trucking in 1993 where he had been employed for 32 years. Mr. Markle was a member of the Heath Church of Christ. He enjoyed camping and loved to travel.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Hazel Wauneta (Dailey) Markle, whom he married July 4, 1947; and by a daughter, Linda (Richard) Hicks of Newark; grandchildren, Randy (Shannon) Hicks of Terre Haute, Indiana, Lisa Hicks of Heath and Jayson (Susan) Markle of Gahanna; great-grandchildren, Brady Hicks, James, Andrew and Katrina Markle; a sister, Marjorie Tessler of Delaware; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Hershel Markle, Jr., who died March 28, 1976; a brother, Raymond Markle; and a sister, Gertrude Wheeler.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at the funeral home, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.
