Jerome C. Altmann

Newark: A Memorial Mass for Jerome "Jerry" C. Altmann, 85, of Newark will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 29, 2011 with Msgr. Paul Enke officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Marshfield Catholic Cemetery, Wisconsin.

Mr. Altmann, a United States Navy WWII Veteran, died at the Flint Ridge Nursing Home on Wednesday, October 26, 2011. He was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin on August 25, 1926 to the late Fred and Helen (Veit) Altmann.

Jerry was a parishioner of St. Edward Catholic Church where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #10876. He retired in 1993 after working many years in the fabric industry and as retail manager for JC Penney Department Stores.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janis (Merkel) Altmann of the home; his sons Stephen Altmann of Westerville and Michael Altmann of Worthington; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Neil Kitzmiller of Columbus; his grandchildren, Kristofer, Heather, Joshua (Shari), and Nathan; his step-brother Kenneth (Clementine) Merkel of Colgate, Wisconsin; step-sister Marian (John) Nikolai of Cato, Wisconsin; step-sister-in-law, Joan Merkel of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his step-father, Wendelin Merkel; his sister Dorothy Altmann; and his step-brothers Floyd and Donald Merkel.
