CAMBRIDGE: John M. Snodgrass, 81, of Cambridge passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Kindred Healthcare.

He was born April 26, 1932 in Elm Grove, WV and was the son of the late Lindsey S. and Mary J. (Eddy) Snodgrass.

Mr. Snodgrass was a 1951 graduate of Community High School in Trail Run and a retired Postal Worker from Hebron.

John was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean War. He served in the Pacific, Atlantic, Black Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea as a Hospital Corpsman on the heavy Cruiser USS Baltimore CA-68. He was a life member of the DAV Chapter #28, a life member of Cambridge VFW #2901, Past Commander of Byesville American Legion Post #116, a member of Military Order of Cootie, Pup Tent 76, AM-Vets post #821 and the Eagles post #386. He was also Past Master of Hebron Masonic Lodge #116 and Byesville Masonic Lodge #654. He was a former Quarter Master of VFW post #3760 and former commander of the Guernsey County Veterans Council where he was a member of the "Honor Guard" for several years and assisted with hundreds of military funerals. Also, a former member of York Rite, Scottish Rite 32nd degree where he received the Order of Silver Trowel, Order of High Priesthood, and Royal and Select Masters. He was also a certified Paramedic, Fire Inspector, Arson Investigator and a volunteer Fireman at Buckeye Lake for 20 years. John was voted as one of the outstanding veterans of the year on November 11, 2003. He had been a member of the Guernsey County Veterans Council.

His most precious moments in life were camping with his son John on the farm, singing with his children in the church choir. His hobbies included fishing, feeding the birds, raising flowers, dancing and big band music.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an uncle, Clyde Eddy (WWI) a brother, William M. Earp (Korea and WWII) and a cousin, Don Eddy who was killed during the Korea War.

He is survived by his loving son, John M. (Nancy) Snodgrass II and his four children of Newark; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Flores of Seymour IN; four step-daughters, Crystal Larson (retired Navy) of Apharetta GA, Cheryl Yingling of Hebron, Lisa Frazier of Pataskala and Margaret Overturf of McKinney TX; step-son, David (Mike) Johnson (retired USAF) of Crestview FL.; and veteran twin grandsons, Rusty and Dusty Webb (USN-Iraq) along with nine other grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

No calling hours will be observed. A graveside memorial service will be 11:00 am Friday, June 14th at Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge with Rev. Nancy Parsons officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
