John Mitchell, Jr

NEWARK: A funeral service, to celebrate the life of John Mitchell, Jr., 66 of Newark, will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Michael Noble officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Licking County Veterans Alliance providing military honors.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, two hours prior to the funeral service, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

John was born in Rome, Georgia on July 16, 1946 to the late John and Lois Mitchell. He went to be with the Lord at Heath Nursing Care Center on September 15, 2012 while surrounded by family.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. He was a self-employed brick mason. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed listening to music, fishing, cooking and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Linda (Harris) Mitchell, whom he married on May 5, 1973; children, Terrence (Dawn) Mitchell, Derrick Mitchell and Valencia Harris, all of Newark; grandsons, Reece Mitchell and Demare Ferrin; brothers and sisters, Magdeline Daniels, Samuel Mitchell and Joseph Mitchell, all of Columbus, Jodi Mitchell of San Antonio, Texas and Inez Wilkinson of Atlanta, GA; uncle, James Ford of Rome, GA; and numerous nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents; he is preceded in death by one brother, Isaiah Mitchell.
