Joseph E. Parkinson

HEATH: Joseph E. "Jody" Parkinson, 80, of Heath, formerly of Altemonte Springs, Florida, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at his home. He was born February 29, 1932, in Newark, a son of the late Joseph Robert and Dorothy (O'Neil) Parkinson.

A 1950 graduate of Newark High School, Mr. Parkinson served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an engineer at Western Electric in Columbus and retired from Sprint Communications while residing in Florida. He was a talented musician, playing the trumpet in several bands over the years. Mr. Parkinson had a passion for nature, enjoying hiking, camping and photography.

He is survived by many cousins, including Ruth Young, with whom he made his home; a half brother, Robert (Karon) Parkinson of Mt. Vernon; a niece and great niece; special friends, Frank, Scott and Tim Austin of Newark; Millie Walker and Scottie McDaniell of Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doreen (Don) Loucks; a niece Cathy and a great niece.

Inurnment will occur in Cedar Hill Cemetery, beside his parents, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Newark High School Music Department or the Licking County Humane Society.

The Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark is assisting the family.
