Martha Smith

HEATH: Martha Adaline Smith, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. She was born to Charles and Grace Adamson on June 24, 1923, in Creekside, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Rural Valley High School in 1942. She and the love of her life, Stewart E. Smith, were married on July 4, 1946. Only after Stewart's passing on July 2, 1976, did they part. In the 36 years since his passing her devotion to him has not wavered. The next chapter in their love story has begun in heaven.

She is survived by two sons, Stewart C. (Marilyn) Smith of Newark, Frank E. (Leslie) Smith of Heath and one daughter Marie (Barry) Spurr of Heath; grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Stewart M. (Amy) Smith, Shannon (John) Hudson, Kasey Boyer (fiancé Eric Murillo), Jacob Smith, Ethan (Amy) Spurr, Amanda (Tim) Otten and April Newsom; great grandchildren and her greatest joy, Israel and Zachary Smith, Bailey Smith, Dylan Shaw, Halee Boyer, Kiki, Emily and Tyler Hudson, Alex, Brady and Carter Wheelhouse, Jack and Cole Otten, Michael and Devin Newsom and Mackenna and Wyatt Spurr. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother in law, LaRue (Clair) Pruner; three brothers and sisters in law, Beryl (Mary) Adamson, Leonard (Britta) Adamson and Wayne (Alphonsis) Adamson.

She was a devoted homemaker and took very good care of her husband and children. She loved bowling and served as the secretary of the Newark-Granville Ladies Bowling League for over 20 years. She was director of the Park Lanes Youth Bowling League for several years. She liked watching Cubs baseball and of all things, professional wrestling. Above all, she lived for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was never happier than when she sat in a rocking chair with a baby on her lap.

Friends and family may call from 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street in Newark. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10AM on Saturday with Pastor Tom Olsen officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Chapel Cemetery.
