Mary Lou Rhodes

HEATH: A memorial service will be held in honor of Mary Lou Rhodes on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11:00 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1137 Sharon Valley Road, Newark, with Pastor Jim Gau officiating.

Our beloved Mary Lou passed away peacefully on the afternoon of August 20, 2012. Mary Lou was born in Fillmore, Illinois on February 15, 1931 to Jesse and Gladys Owens. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ira (Dusty) Rhodes. Dusty and Mary Lou lived in Heath, Ohio for 44 years where they raised three children, Jeff (Penny) Rhodes of Los Angeles, California, Peggy (Lane) Goodwin of Encinitas, California and Julie (Brian) Conlisk of Los Gatos California; and two grandchildren, Jessie and Brady Conlisk of Los Gatos, California.

Mary Lou was the quintessential All American Mom, a devoted and caring wife, and a loving and nurturing mother. Mary Lou wasn't only beautiful, recognized as Homecoming Queen of Fillmore High School in 1947, she was also a talented seamstress, and an amazing cook, her specialty being her fabulous pies. Mary Lou was a founding member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and spent many years serving on The Ladies Guild and singing in the church choir. While mainly a homemaker, Mary Lou went back to work in the late 1970's for Heath City Schools where she served as Assistant Treasurer.

After retiring, Dusty and Mary Lou spent their winters traveling from Ohio to California in their motorhome to visit their children and grandchildren. Since her husband's passing in 2008, Mary Lou has been living in California. Her family will bring her back for burial next to her husband at the Lutheran Cemetery on Linville Pike.

We will miss her so, for she was truly the greatest Mom anyone could have.
