HANOVER: A funeral service for Mary E. Simpson, age 90, of Hanover, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Dave Mason officiating. Burial will take place in Hanover Cemetery.
Mrs. Simpson passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Autumn Health Care of Newark. She was born April 15, 1922 in Newark, Ohio to the late Daniel and Sylvia (Nice) Bowman.
Mrs. Simpson retired June 1, 1987 from the Bowerston-Shale Co. where she had worked for 29 years as a secretary and bookkeeper. She was a member of the Wilkins Run Grange, Eager Beavers Senior Citizens Club and the American Legion Post 85 Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing puzzles and word finds.
She is survived by a son, Daniel E. (Deborah) Simpson of Hanover; two daughters, Karen M. (Jerry) Powell of Heath and Trudie E. Van Allen of Hanover; five grandchildren, Tasha Baker, Jarrod Day, Jerry Van Allen, Justin Van Allen and Gayle Simpson; and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Simpson, on August 21, 1983; a son, Albert E. Simpson; and a half brother, Max Bowman.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, January 25, at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
