Nancy A. Evans

NEWARK: A graveside service for Nancy A. Evans, 81 of Newark will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Charlie Smith officiating.

Mrs. Evans died May 2, 2012 at her residence. She was born September 15, 1930 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Franklyn J. and Mary Virginia (Walk) Gahris.

Mrs, Evans was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. She was a past Deacon and honored recently for 50 years membership. She volunteered at the church food pantry and served as a Team Captain. Mrs. Evans was a graduate of Heidelberg College. Mrs. Evans taught school for over 30 years. She retired from the Cherry Valley Elementary School. She received the Teacher of the Year award from the Newark City Schools. She was a member of the Licking County Retired Teachers, Cherry Valley Retirees and The Coterie Club. In her leisure time she enjoyed tending to her yard and flower garden.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey R. (Lauren) Evans of Newark; brother, Tom (June) Gahris of Port Clinton; grandchildren, Alex Housel, Shannon (Max) Tucker; great-granddaughter, Kimberlie Tucker; niece, Patty (Jonathan) Amey; nephews, Doug Gahris, Greg Gahris and Katie Marie.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Evans, November 16, 1982.

The family is honoring Mrs. Evans request for no calling hours.

The family request memorial contributions to the Second Presbyterian Church, 42 E. Church Street, P.O. Box 428 Newark, Ohio 43058-0428 or the Homeward Bound Humane Society, P. O. Box 933, Newark, Ohio 43058-0933.
