Rebecca L. Kerns

NEWARK: A funeral service, to celebrate the life of Rebecca L. Kerns, age 86, of Newark, will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville, Ohio.

Rebecca was born in Athens County, Ohio on January 22, 1928 to the late Charles Winchell and Mable (Tipton) Rizer. She passed away at her daughter's residence on February 21, 2014.

She worked at the Nelsonville Shoe Factory and after retirement, she moved to Newark, where she happily raised her family. She was a member of the Ancient Order of Druids in Newark. She enjoyed going to Bingo, playing cards, socializing, listening to music, but most enjoyable to her was spending time with her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother to everyone she knew and met, and always offered kind words to everyone she came in contact with. Her love will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, David (Phyllis) Kerns, Charles (Lynn) Kerns, Niedy Pace, Jave Bender and Sheryl Young; grandchildren, Danny Kerns, Donnie (Lorieal) Bennett, Kathy (Brad) Prince, Timmy Kerns, Lil David Kerns, Courtnee Kerns, Mindy Keener, Cameron Kerns and Shane Pace; great grandchildren, Tristan Taylor, Joseph (J.D.) Bennett, and Patrick Kerns.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Kerns, whom she married on Friday, March 13, 1946; daughter, Anna Mae Kerns; son, Robert "Bobby" Kerns; great grandson, Hunter James Kerns; and one brother, Harold.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Central Ohio, especially Maddi, Whitney and Jessica for all of their help and great care they provided to mom.

Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville St., Newark on Sunday, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
