Robert William Trumbull

SEASIDE, OR: A celebration of the Life of Robert William Trumbull, 84, of Seaside, OR, formerly of Newark, OH, will be held at 2:00pm on Monday August 27th 2012 at Seaside United Methodist Church, 241 N. Holliday, Seaside, OR, with the Rev. Ron Crandall Officiating. Viewing for family and friends will be held Saturday August 25th, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm at Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Avenue, Astoria, OR. Graveside Services and Internment will be held at 1:30PM on Tuesday, August 28th, 2012 at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland OR, with Military Honors provided by the Oregon National Guard.

Robert was born on May 11th, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late William Lesyear and Rose (Jensen) Trumbull, and passed on to be with his Lord on August 22, 2012.

Robert joined the United States Army and served his country honorably in the Korean War from 1950-1953, and was awarded The Purple Heart and The Army Commendation Medal for his distinguished service. Robert married Catherine Ann Woodward of Baldwin, New York on July 24th, 1954. Robert was a man of great intelligence and many talents. His life's work was varied as a business owner, a Teacher, and a Minister.

Robert taught in Oregon School Districts from 1968 to 1972. Robert then taught at Newark Senior High School, in Newark, Ohio, from 1972 to 1979. Robert retired from teaching at NSHS in 1979, founding Trumbull Computing Services in Newark, Ohio, which evolved into what is known today as the Computer Warehouse. Robert served as Pastor at Mt. Union Church for many years, and was a member of the Elks Lodge #391 in Newark. Robert retired in the year 2000, when his wife Cathy retired from Denison University in Granville, OH. Robert and Cathy moved back to Oregon in June of that year, settling in Seaside OR, to spend their Golden Years on the ocean in the land that they loved.

Robert is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Catherine, of Seaside; and his five sons, David (Denise)Trumbull of Cleveland, OH, William (Pamela) Trumbull of Newark, OH, Walter (David Muscamp) Trumbull of Seaside, OR, Robert "Boe" Trumbull, of Hollywood, CA, and Jonathan (Annabelle) Trumbull of Cannon Beach, OR; also by four grandchildren, Ginger (Trumbull) Rife, Nathan (Ava) Trumbull, Ashley Briggs-Trumbull, and Christopher Trumbull; and five great-grandchildren, Brittany M. Rife, David L. Rife, Jr., Daniel M. Rife, Camila Trumbull, and Hayden Thomas William Lassiter; sister-in-law, Marie Jacobsen, of Clearwater, FL; and his only sister, Mary Walsh, of Portland, OR; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, William L. Trumbull in 1933, and his mother, Rose Johanna (Jensen) Trumbull in 1993; also by mother-in-law Catherine A. Woodward, father-in-law Walter A. Woodward; uncle, Thomas Trumbull; step-brother, Steven Brown; brothers-in-law Paul Woodward, Harry Jacobsen, and special brother-in-law, Edward P. Walsh.
