NEWARK: Roy Sheets, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and golfing buddy, passed away peacefully at the break of dawn, Sunday morning, November 11, 2012. He was 82 years old.
His "Sweetie" and wife of 60 years, Phyllis J. Sheets, passed away before him in January of this year. He is survived by his children, Bonnie J. Rader, of Columbus, OH, and Mark A. Sheets, of Newark, OH; grandchildren, Jonathan and Kacie Rader, Zachary Rader, and Bethany Rader, and great grandchild, Cameron Cassell, all of Columbus, OH.
Roy was fondly known as "Boom Boom" to his grandchildren and Cameron, as he always wore suspenders back in the 80's and 'boom' was the sound they made when Jonathan pulled on them as a toddler. The name remained with him to the end.
Roy picked up the sport of golf after retiring from the Newark Air Force Station and was a founding member and secretary for the Bob Gray Memorial Golf League. He loved spending hours writing the computer programs for the league, their outings and keeping their scores. This, in spite of the aggravation the computer sometimes gave him.
Roy greatly loved his family and always sacrificed his wants or needs for theirs. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will have calling hours from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 15th at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at the Newark Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at 11 a.m., Friday, November 16th.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, OH 43058.
