Russell C. Friend

NEWARK: A funeral service for Russell C. Friend, will be held at 11AM, Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home in Newark, Bruce Hissong will officiate. Burial will follow Wilson Cemetery.

Friends and family may call from 2-5PM, Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st Street. A Masonic Service will be held at 4:30PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Friend was born August 28, 1928, in Newark Ohio, a son of the late Norris Clayton and Cora (Fulk) Friend. Mr. Friend, 84, of Newark, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Heath Nursing Home.

Mr. Friend was a graduate of Newark High School and retired from the US Navy. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas after 38 years as an inventory control analyst. In his retirement, he had worked for the Brinks Company and for 15 years served as head of security at the Indian Mound Mall. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, a member of the VFW and had served with the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Friend was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Acme Lodge #554 F.&A.M. and a member of the Heath Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Julia (McGinnis) Friend, whom he married June 5, 1948; son, Roger (Cynthia) Friend of Newark; three grandchildren, Jamie (Amy) Molden of Dayton, Kalani Friend of New Albany, Felicia Friend of Newark; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Molden and a sister Jaunice Weekley of California.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Onley on April 4, 2007 and a brother, Ralph Friend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Licking County Veterans Alliance; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
