NEWARK: A Funeral Mass for Stephen Eugene Bash, 64, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 22, 2014, with Rev. Dean Mathewson as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark, with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Steve, a United States Air Force Veteran, died at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. He was born in Lancaster, Ohio on July 22, 1949 to the late Herbert Eugene and Flora Belle (Thomas) Bash.
Steve was a 1967 graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School and earned his B.S. from The Ohio State University where he studied Political Science. Steve was a very active parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where he served on Parish Council, was a lecture, catechist, Eucharistic minister, and Pre-Cana instructor. He also taught for the Parish School of Religion for over 20 years and was a Vacation Bible School volunteer. Steve was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Bill Johnson Council. Steve was a faithful Ohio State Buckeye fan and enjoyed reading as well as spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lorie (Noblick) Bash of the home; his children, Heather (Chris) Weber of Pataskala, Jennifer Bash, Aaron (Mista) Bash, Rose Bash, all of Newark, and Mary (Jacob) Mitchell of Fayetteville, NC; 7 grandchildren, Corey, K.C., Abbigail, Caitlin, Arrieannah, Nikolai, and Cheyenne; his brother, Rodney (Gladys) Bash; his sisters, Angie (Jim) Flack, Susie (Terry) Karcher, Nancy (Dan) Mayer, and Jane (Jeff) Uhl; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Friday, February 21, 2014 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, where a Vigil Service will be held at 8:30 P.M.
